RTA considering changes to operator

RTA (New Orleans transit agency) is considering options as their outsource contract expires later next year.
RTA has come a long way under Transdev. I don't hardly ever ride buses, but I do ride streetcars sometimes. They tend to be clean and well driven.
The issue I have with them is their timing. They seem generally unable to stick to a schedule. I will see 3 streetcars pass in a 4 minute stretch, and not see another one for 20 minutes.
I'm all for putting this back out to bid and seeing what can happen. However, I worry that 1) it will go to some brother in law or 2) the city will want to bring it back in house again. Both would be disastrous.

With a new mayor this is most likely. Gotta get dat money for you and your family while you can.

In ALL of our lifetimes the phrase "They keep to their schedule like a Japanese railroad" will not be uttered about anything involving cultcha in NOLA.

The timing issue would be greatly fixed by just low-jacking the streetcars and having their location on an app like uber so you can see where your streetcar is and how long the wait will be. A lot of bus and rail systems use this technology so you don't miss it by a minute while thinking it's about to show up, but the next one is actually 20 minutes away.

Thats why you run against them on the neutral ground, there is no schedule.

I like the San Francisco method. Don't buy new streetcars, buy other city's old street cars.

Apparently they have been working on this for a while. I don't know why they don't just buy a system.

The St. Charles line will never change their style of street car. It's look is iconic and I'm pretty sure all of the parts for them are still made by hand. TBH the streetcar isn't meant for an efficient means of transportation. It's an experience. I take it when I'm headed to a bar or to go explore the french quarter on the weekend. I'd never consider taking it to work even if it ran somewhat efficiently and I work and live on the line.
