As someone who lives out here I would know. They are scrambled anytime a airplane goes into restricted airspace or in this case stolen. They protect the west coast.

I’m aware. But it’s not their sole function...

At least they got stick time in a real world scenario.

How many thousands in tax payer money to military jets burn daily?
Is it really a waste?

Had he landed the plane I would have thought it was cool. Him crashing.like he did could have killed others.

It's good to do a real world scramble. Also the keys being there so quick.has reassured a lot of Americans.

Yes, I know it is good experience/training. It still doesn’t make this situation a good thing.

This was likely cheaper as it wasn't planned so there wasn't tasks for multitudes of airmen and secondary support. Ground support and pilots are ready anyway. So you have fuel costs being the only real variable expense, no?

It's not a good thing. Anything like this further fricks GA.
9/11 fricked ga big time and we already saw in Austin that a single engine plane didn't do that much damage.

That...
The cost of the wrecked plane.
The arse pain the pilots have to go through and wrench that was thrown into their daily plans.
The other flights that were affected.
Etc.
