These statues had to come down because the confederacy was a racist traitor nation that was defeated. We're not scrubbing history. Just refusing to honor traitors. Oh wait...that was just how we get our foot in the door.

Malcolm Subers only goal is to leave some footnote of himself in history. He knows he is ultimately insignificant and this way his name will maybe be mentioned in the future, even if only as an epithet.

Someone asked me what I think that the city should do with the monuments now. I said, "well, since Mitch thinks that they scared so many people away...put Jefferson Davis in Houston, P.G.T. Beauregard in Dallas and Robert E. Lee in Atlanta. Maybe they'll scare a lot of people into coming back."

When a city leader not only refuses to prioritize the real, tangible issues we have in New Orleans, but has actually contributed to some of those issues, I have to think about my future in Orleans.....besides the fact that my mayor has a clear disdain for me. I was born and raised in New Orleans, and for the first time in my life, I'm considering a move to Jefferson Parish. It pisses me off too. But I can't just be blind to what's going on.
