Road trip from BR to out west: need suggestions

Me and 3 friends have decided to take a road trip after finals this year as a graduation trip, and we decided out west seemed awesome.
Possible end destinations we are considering: San Diego, LA, Las Vegas, Lake Tahoe just to name some.
We haven't really hit the details of the planning stage but if any of y'all have done this type of trip and have any past experiences to share, I would love to hear them. TIA!

Fly. Once you drive across west Texas, you won't want to cross it again to come home.

The most beautiful sight to my eyes after driving I-10 across Texas heading to AZ was "Welcome to New Mexico"

Stopping at L&J cafe in El Paso is a must. Grew up in Texas and have spent plenty of time in Mexico, and it's the best Mexican food I've ever had

Road trips are fun if you have the time.
BTR is a nice little airport if you don't....and if I'm honest, I'd go that route. Texas is boring as hell. Interstate driving isn't all that fun. $300 is a small price to pay for avoiding 48 + hours of driving.

Vegas is a 24 hour drive from BR. You couldn't pay me to do that

Fly to California instead and rent a car there and drive along the Pacific Coast Highway

I understand the flying aspect and the convenience but it's more about getting away I guess and doo something memorable, plus we want to see what's along the way to the coast such as the Grand Canyon etc., but I really do understand the struggle of making it through west Texas, my dad drove 18 wheelers when he was younger and said its the longest stretch there is.

Go up the eastern side of the Sierras, hit Mt Whitney, Yosemite and Mammoth, to Lake Tahoe. If any one of y'all have a 4wd there are countless off-road trails out there worth exploring. Get these books.

And is one of the easiest airports to fly in and out of. It is small and doesn't have much options food wise...but it can be nice to know you won't be dealing with too much chaos/busy lines there.

Eat the 72 ounce steak in Amarillo.

Do yourself a favor and strike L.A. from your list.

My husband and I have driven cross country several times. Get a tent and camp in national parks along the way....southern Utah is beautiful. Save some time to travel up the west coast as Southern California is very different than the Pacific Northwest.

Now that's an interesting idea, but none of us are 25 and I've heard it's hard to find a place willing to rent cars to anyone younger? Could be wrong haven't done much research yet.

3600 miles in 10 days with 2 kids equals one of the best vacations of my life. Highlights included:
- kayenta az and drive through southern Utah up to moab. Go off on some old Indian roads/trails but make sure u have 4wd. Let the kids run around on the mesas
- driving white rim trail at canyonlands
- Yellowstone
- tetons
- badlands SD
- glacier national park
Don't much care for grand canyon. Canyonlands/moab is way more interactive.
Kayenta was sad because of the reservation dogs (Google it) but it was crazy seeing roving packs of wild horses dumpster diving very surreal

Sounds like you should do the road trip. Have fun, make sure people share the driving duties, and don't be afraid to get way off the interstate to see something cool.
