Yes, McCain was a charlatan. He did absolutely the opposite of what his constituency elected him to do.
I'm not glad he's dead but I'm glad he's not in the Senate anymore. You should study his post military life a little. He was a class A scumbag.

There is a president in office who once said there would build a wall on the American/Mexico border and construction would begin the first month he is office.
He sounds a lot like McCain there.

A lot of the replies in this thread are disturbing. I am sorry that we have fallen to this level of discourse.
It used to be that people could disagree and still respect one another. I voted for McCain in 2008. I didn't agree with everything he said, but I thought him the better candidate.
I haven't agreed with everything McCain has said and done since his election loss. But the man served his country in the most divisive of our wars. He spent years in a North Vietnam prisoner of war camp. He suffered torture and was permanently disfigured as a result. He could have gotten out early based on the fact that his father was an admiral, but declined.
He served his country in the Senate and followed his conscience in his votes. I didn't agree with them all, but I respected him. He was a "Maverick" and, while I didn't care for that I understood it.
We need to return to the days when we could disagree without being totally disagreeable. I'm not sure that will ever happen and we will be the worse for it.
R.I.P., Senator.
Great post
I'll second that. I didn't even vote for the man in '08, but I respect the man and his service to this country. But if there's one thing always-Trumpers don't understand, it's respect.

This is probably going to sound shitty but whatever.
Just because you join the military doesn’t make you a patriot or any better than someone who works hard and pays taxes.
There are a lot of people in the military because they had no other career choice. They get paid. They hate being there. But they should automatically be celebrated?

You must really dislike our president. He makes John McCain look like a choir boy. He is on his 3rd wife and was fricking porn stars not long after their marriage.

So a non Trumper can't dislike McCain? Not liking someone <> wishing they were dead

Seriously, it takes 2 seconds to look up the details of any story and yet many people live their lives reading and believing the equivalent of a tabloid in the grocery store checkout line.

Chris, you are not intellectually qualified to be posting in this thread.

Damn...Big Lee and John McCain are the only people who die and get downvotes when gratitude by OP is expressed.

Where did I say that? I was saying the always-Trump crowd is almost celebrating this. It's sickening.
I look back in history to two guys who were more bitter Political enemies than the President and McCain who put aside their political differences and became friends again. They were Thomas Jefferson and John Adams.
I will add that Im glad to see the President offer condolences after McCain's death. Hopefully his blind followers will do the same

I can't begin to understand what it was like for the young men who were forced to go to war Vietnam, but I know many of them who returned, has never been the same person they were before they left to go to Vietnam.
If you ever talk to a Vietnam vet and hear of the things they saw and experienced, I am not sure if anyone could come back from that and eventually live a "normal" life. I am not making an excuse for people's actions, but I have to believe that any man who was captured by the enemy and was their prisoner for 5.5 years, it would affect their views on life in general.

To me John McCain falls into the same group as George W Bush...not fit to run a country, but a good-hearted man that you can’t fault for having beliefs that might diverge from your own.

The vitriol in this thread is nauseating. John McCain served his state and his country for decades. I disagree with the man on how to run a government, but he deserves respect, even from dissidents.
Most of the dumbasses celebrating his death probably voted for him 10 years ago.
