I will drink some Bombay Sapphire today in his honor.

Back when Marcinko’s books first came out my brother and I read everything we could from him. My brother even bought me a bottle of Sapphire due to our common infatuation with him. This is at least 12-13 years ago.

I still haven’t had a drink from it, can’t stand the taste and smell of gin. LOL.

You can’t expect people who are asked to do unspeakable things, in unimaginable environments, in the name of national security to not have some “cultural” issues in theater or stateside.

Army SF/SOF have far fewer of said cultural issues. They're out there doing the same shite and it doesn't carry over into unprofessional actions on and off duty to nearly the same extent.

voice did not match his persona..... Like a lot of folks like him he put his dudes first and frick everyone else.

Plankowner of 6 from NOLA on first meeting Marcninko

"damnit I'm glad he's on our side"

as for culture issues - Well his old unit cleaned up very well when the mandate was given and stayed that way. Some of the other outfits had issues but... a lot of military units do... as for the Naval Specail Warfare community those guys personal lives are incredibly stress full and in some cases nonexistent especially in the Tier 1 east coast based team.

Divorce rate is off the charts and those dudes have been at war for over 20 years non stop now. Everyone and everything has their breaking point.

That didn’t take you long…a true American Patriot passes away and you have to crap on his legacy. Some people’s children need a spanking on decorum.

an army unit had pretty much the same scenario as did his unit in the seal beach security officer incident but.... oh well

FIFY. Dude was a badass, but a lot of the culture problems in NAVSPECWAR can be traced back to the examples he set.

a plank owner of 6 and a long time devgru guy from algiers would strongly disagree with you. The lack of oversight and unreal time spent training and preparing as well as simply the stress of what they do led to that.

The guilty parties more than owned up to it(in nearly all cases), spend enough time on the edge and eventually the edge cuts even the hardest

and if one person had that much lasting impact on units and folks he hadn't dealt with for nearly 30 years.... come on man..... 20 years of war had way more to do with that.
