Perhaps I'm super naïve, but this is the day and age of cock flexing, and not doing shite with countries. The chances of Russia rolling its military through Europe to take control is ludicrous at best. They are happy just pissing people off with fly-by's etc.

But don't those states have a reputation for resistance to Russian rule?
The Baltic States were first part of the Russian Empire, then briefly independent after the fall of the Czars, only to be gobbled up by the USSR early in WWII. Poland likewise had a history of Russian dominance and was a puppet of the Soviets for over 40 years after WWII.
So while these areas do have a reputation for chaffing at Russian rule, the Russians likewise have a brutal reputation for making them like it.

Nuclear war aside, they are essentially a lumbering brute. They might deliver a crushing first blow but after that their strength is essentially numbers. War with Europe would be degasting dir their country anyways.

Yes. What have they ever done for us?

Well one issue I see, is now you would need a Russian visa to travel to the Baltics
Oh frick!
I couldn't go to the Baltics anymore?
How is that worth fighting a war over? Hint: it's not.

I actually agree. Too bad our opinion on the matter don't count for jack shite though. Bottom line is if Russia attacks the Baltic States (or any other NATO member), thanks to the NATO treaty, we have no choice other than go to war.

You have to be an idiot to think Russia could take over or would possibly attack any NATO country.
If we have a POTUS that appears weak or sends mixed signals on whether they intend to defend NATO countries, I could easily see Putin making a move on Estonia. It would be under the same pretext that Russia moved on Georgia and Ukraine - "protecting" ethnic Russians in those countries.

What would be the point of taking over a major European nation knowing you'd suffer massive losses and would be crippled by international economic sanctions?
You should ask the Crimeans that question.

Yeah. America has such a long standing tradition of honoring treaties.
frick NATO. We have a choice, break the treaty, tell the winner to call us.

Yeah, it seems like they don't have much depth. Also sounds like half their officer corps is nothing but a bunch of fat drunks used to fighting the 3rd stringers.
tDecline is real. This never would have been a problem under Andropov.
They should fire Putin.

Again, I agree. I've got a son just over 3 years away from being of military age. There's not a ducking thing in Europe worth him going to fight for.
What I'm saying though is there is no way our leaders would ever not honor our NATO commitments.

Man, some of you guys don't know anything about Russia and the paranoia of Russians.
That being said, am I the only person thinking of this?
"Hell, I'd piss on a spark plug if I thought it would help!"

Lets send the SJW's to fight the USSR. They can crawl in their safe space when the soviets tell them where to go.
Seriously, things are also different with the Internet and the way people communicate. News travels faster which makes it hard for countries to control people.
I can see the USSR trying to take back some of the countries it use to control. Communism is probably a lot different from what we remember during the Cold War.

France, the U.K., and Germany have complete garbage militaries.
I don't believe for a second that Russia is going to/ ever will invade Europe. BUT they could take any country they wanted in Europe. Just look at these NATO countries. It's embarrassing. I seriously hope the USA is developing secret weaponry, because in just a few years Russia could have a more advanced military. They have a ton of modernization projects I'm not going to list. I'd be willing to bet Russia has more equipment built after 2000 than the US does.
Let's not act like the US military is full of modern equipment.
Russia:
MBT - T-14 Armata (2015)
Bomber - TU-95 Bear (1956)
Stealth Bomber - PAK-DA (Testing)
Supersonic Bomber - TU-160 (1981)
Fighter Jet - SU-35S (2013) (1,734 MPH)
Stealth Fighter - PAK-FA (2010) (1,516 mph)
Multi Role Fighter - SU-30 (1996)
Newest Sub - K-329 Severodvinsk (2014)
USA:
MBT - M1 Abrams (1980)
Bomber - B52 (1955)
Stealth Bomber - B2 Spirit (1997)
Supersonic Bomber (Fighter bomber only)
Fighter Jet - F22 Raptor (2005) (1,498 MPH)
Stealth Fighter - F22 Raptor (above)
Multi role Fighter - F35 Lightning (2006)
Newest Sub - SSN-774 Virginia Class (2004)
