How do you propose we get illegal guns off the streets? Do you think the law abiding citizens that are actually committing these crimes will stroll on into their local sheriffs office and hand them over?

Oh..I get it. You want the ones that aren't actually using guns to commit felonies to turn them in. To disarm them. To give more power to criminals and home invaders.

I get it

Guns should be outlawed. England has outlawed them and last year had 41 death by handguns, The good ol usa had over 9,000.
England's murder rates didn't go down after their gun ban. Actually, they went up for a couple of years and then went back to their pre-ban levels. Also, they don't record the stats unless there is a criminal conviction, so mob hits and all other unsolved murders don't make the count.

Your argument has no weight when you compare England to itself instead of comparing it to America.

Explain Chicago's gun control and gun crime rates?

Yeah. Everybody there just stabs each other to death now. You ever been stabbed? Pretty sure its a LOT more painful and takes longer to die from than a gunshot.

To be fair, there was a stat that said in one year there were over 1,500 guns used in crimes that could be traced back to one store right outside the city. Yes, Chicago has strict gun laws but the surrounding areas doesn't.

I'll see if I can find it.

But it's a trade-off and that trade-off is that violent crimes increase.

That has been shown in other countries and right here in the USA where cities with the strictest gun laws have the most violent crimes.

Well shite, Chicago is the safest city in America with that type of reporting...

So you mean to tell me, that gun control won't stop criminals from using guns to do criminal acts?

Gotcha

I hear this argument made seriously a lot. Do we really have a segment of Americans that believe we as a country are more bloodthirsty than all other Western nations? Because they don't have an issue with massive stabbings in countries with strong gun control laws...

Given the same available resources to hurt or kill one another, I don't think Americans are any more likely to violence than, say, English people are. But that's just me?

Fewer guns only lowers the number of people hurt by guns. It doesn't necessarily lower the number of dead people, grieving families and senseless murders. Those can happen without guns.

Can't defend yourself from a home invader without a gun, though

No. Are you trolling or are you just thick? I mean to tell you that it doesn't matter if a city has strict gun laws if criminals can just drive 20 minutes away to buy a gun.

Well they drive a couple hours away and buy them.

I'm not one for banning guns, but this argument isn't one I like to use.

Full on gun control would also take decades to make a dent because there's no way we could remove the guns already out there. We'd have to just restrict heavily the flow of new guns into society. And it would have to be a majority of the nation, if not the whole thing participating because criminals could just drive to another state and get guns.

Again, it shouldn't happen IMO.

I WOULD be open to any ideas people have about mental evaluations or something for gun owners. I don't know who it would be plausible though.

Also, there are definitely some weapons and ammunition that don't need to be sold to the public. They are the minority, but I don't believe we need AR-15's shelling out hollow points to be available at Academy Sports, but that's just me.

Can we get separate threads for information about the shooting and arguing about gun control?
