Elevators are supposed to have an annual inspection, I wonder how long it was since the last one.
The homeowners insurance should cover everything and pay them some cash for their troubles.

Sounds like they made out ok for a trip to NOLA. Did the ambulance get shot at on the way to the hospital or something? No story here.

The commercial requirements on elevators make a multi floor fall impossible from what I have been told. Seeing this is an in-home unit makes me wonder if it was inspected / up to code or maybe even really, really old and lacking safety features.
