Not just California. I was looking for a rental for this coming weekend, Mississippi here. 650.00 for 3 days. I was shocked!

I parked at US Park at MSY. In addition to the daily rate, the taxes and fees added 25% to the bill.
I booked a hotel in Manhattan, the tax was an additional 15% and when I read the fine print on the confirmation, they also would charge an additional $25 per day for a "resort fee". I canceled the reservation and and booked at another hotel that didn't charge a "resort fee".
