This is the OT, brah. We don't pay rent on anything. We own shite.
See the buying a house thread for more details, but some would argue you should stop throwing away the rent and buy a $100k house with 0% down. Your notes @ 4% would be about $650/month and everyone knows it is impossible to save for a down payment and rent is just blowing away money.

Screw the people who hold someone to the terms of the contract that they signed?

I didn't sign a lease for month to month that after my 6 month lease was up, it automatically goes into a month to month payment plan agreement. I'm skeptical of believing that this is true.
almost every lease does this
pretty much any place will require written notice 30 days prior to moving out
pay them

Two things:
1) As a landlord myself, I can tell you that you are more likely to get screwed in this deal than the landlord. Even if the landlord is fricking you over, he/she is more likely to earn the respect of the judge than the guy that was living there paying month to month and then suddenly stopped.
2) It's just $625. Yeah, it might be a lot of money for a 13 year old assassin like yourself, but I promise you it's not worth the headache. You'll more than likely end up paying it anyway.

The poster you responded to has a point. OP said he told them in April that they were moving out. The complex had notice that he was moving out. Screwed up by not telling them in writing. He will have to pay.
Letter of the law vs spirit of the law.

I'm making no more assumptions than the poster to which I replied.
Again, I don't understand why people sign a contract and then feel like they are getting screwed when someone holds them to the terms of the contract.

I really hope you're just 18 and simply don't know how things work in the real world yet.
Read contracts before you fricking sign.

Read the shite you sign. And if you don't understand it, ask them to explain it.

Find your original lease, I bet there is verbiage in there that states you go to month to month after the original term expires and it should also spell out the vacate policy.
Since you don't have anything in writing you are probably screwed.

Just ignore them. These things tend to work themselves out if you just pretend they don't exist.

Some of the advice is from your young peers. Me? An Old? Don't pay them a dime. Their recourse is submitting to collections and that's it. If what you're saying is true and you have credit issues in the future, spend $100.00 on an attorney letter to the property threatening damages well above the balance they fell is just. Doing so is courtroom documentation in the coming years.

Affect is the verb and effect is the noun.
Therefore your credit might be affected. The effect of not paying May rent might be that your credit score is affected.

If this is serious advice then it may be the dumbest I've seen and op clearly has horrible credit.
