Removed stitches myself several times. Consider having the wife do the cutting//pulling.
Next level of skin cancer doctoring is to use a 5 fu chemo cream. It will do a general clean up of visible and non visible precancerous spots. Application is 2 daily for 21 days OR when your face is to painful to continue. Does a great chemical face peel. Had the first treatment 15 years ago. Second treatment finished last Wednesday .

Yep
I wasn't questioning how to do it as I've done this a few times. Was just wondering if anyone else did and that it's not so unusual to remove them yourself.

I always remove my own, also me and wife have sutured cuts I’ve inflicted on my self several times. They weren’t as gnarly as what you did though.
How much did that cost you at E R.?

When I was a kid, I cut my leg wide open on barbed wire.
Went to the hospital, got stitches, and they told us to go to our primary care doctor to remove them.
When the wound healed, my uncle used a multitool to cut the stitches and remove them.

you'll be fine. no signs of redness or infection. if so then you might want to consider going in to make sure that isnt an issue.

When I was younger my grandmother (retired nurse anesthetist) removed everyone's stitches. Last time I got stitches I just used a fingernail clipper and tweezers.
