Currently Louisiana law only allows the use of deadly force for the protection of life, not property. Texas, on the other hand, allows for the protection of both.
While Texas does sometimes allow deadly force in the protection of property while Louisiana does not, it's not as blanket and general as you would suggest. This is the statute:
Sec. 9.42. DEADLY FORCE TO PROTECT PROPERTY. A person is justified in using deadly force against another to protect land or tangible, movable property:
(1) if he would be justified in using force against the other under Section 9.41; and
(2) when and to the degree he reasonably believes the deadly force is immediately necessary:
(A) to prevent the other's imminent commission of arson, burglary, robbery, aggravated robbery, theft during the nighttime, or criminal mischief during the nighttime; or
(B) to prevent the other who is fleeing immediately after committing burglary, robbery, aggravated robbery, or theft during the nighttime from escaping with the property; and
(3) he reasonably believes that:
(A) the land or property cannot be protected or recovered by any other means; or
(B) the use of force other than deadly force to protect or recover the land or property would expose the actor or another to a substantial risk of death or serious bodily injury.
Acts 1973, 63rd Leg., p. 883, ch. 399, Sec. 1, eff. Jan. 1, 1974. Amended by Acts 1993, 73rd Leg., ch. 900, Sec. 1.01, eff. Sept. 1, 1994.

There are non-lethal means that should be attempted first if the situation warrants it.
Like what? Last year, an off-duty officer was shot and killed in BR when confronting a car burglar. If someone is stealing a package off my doorstep what can I do to stop them w/o risking my life? I could be in my front yard, playing with my kids, and someone can walk under my carport and steal a bike in the middle of the day and what can I do about it?

But killing someone for stealing an Amazon package from your porch is an insane overreaction, even if it is incredibly infuriating.
I agree, but this over-reaction is only occurring because of the under-reaction by our government in not appropriately punishing those who commit these offenses.

We use to be a country that would hang criminals for stealing horses. Now we arrest and prosecute law-abiding citizens for protecting their own property.

You do realize this makes you a psychopath right?
Nah. Someone that is stealing shite off people's porches, or really anything for that matter, contributes very little to society

These thieves had decided what their lives are worth. If they've decided their life is worth an Amazon package, I'm here to oblige them. I live in the Free State of Florida.

Everything said before the word “but” is bullshite.
I’m perfectly fine with thieves eating lead.
