the trial and legal proceedings are still going on (as one would expect), but now more people are being awful and trying to capitalize off this terrible event.

Woodmore employees say bus company responsible for emotional trauma

The lawsuit is attached to the article. One of the women is suing for $250,000 in compensatory damages and $4.5 mil in punitive damages. the other woman is suing for even more.

I have been following this case, and this whole situation has been disgusting

quote:

In a pair of lawsuits filed today, Woodmore Elementary School employees say they suffered "acute emotional trauma" from last November's deadly crash and want the bus company to pay for its negligence.

quote:

Many of the parents told her they could trust her and desperately wanted to know the condition of their children," attorney Ronald Berke wrote. "She felt guilty not being able to tell the truth."

The day after the crash, Bibbs was expected to return to work and "act normal."

Neither Bibbs or Stephanie Muhammed, a Woodmore teacher who filed a second lawsuit, were prepared to deal with that situation or the trauma that followed, Berke said.

Ms. Muhammed suffered such stress and emotional distress that, while at the hospital, she collapsed and had to be taken to the emergency room," Berke wrote. "She had welts on her neck and had to be treated."

Both employees named driver Johnthony Walker and his employer, Durham School Services, in their lawsuits.

Like the other 20 or so lawsuits already filed, today's allege gross negligence on Durham's behalf because it continued to employ Walker after receiving complaints about his reckless driving.

Durham is a private company that provides most of the county's transportation needs.

Watch the excellent film The Sweet Hereafter. It deals with this exact topic, A school bus accident that kills a bunch of children, and the exploitation of lawyers capitalizing on the parents psychological need to pin blame on someone and make sense of it .

The truth is too much to bear; life is suffering and you can not escape it or spread the blame out indefinitely or tie it up in a neat little bow in a way that makes it right. Stoicism and acceptance may be the wise choice so that additional victims are not created’and the tragedy is not compounded.
