The eight were in the basement of the Potter County Texas (Amarillo) courthouse, unclaimed (one person's remains had been there for 15 years).

The Missing in America Project was able to transport them to Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio and bury them with full military honors.

How the hell can there be people in this world that have not a single person who cares enough about them to even claim their remains?...

You'd be surprised -- I do contract work at a nursing home and some of these people have NO. ONE.

If someone never married, or did but had no children or they died young, and outlives everyone else, then it is quite possible.

If Richard Overton wasn't such a celebrity (for being everyone's favorite cigar-smoking, whiskey-drinking WWII vet) he could easily have fallen into this situation (he's been married twice but has no children).
