Jeez. My aunt and uncle lived there when they first got married, and which when st jean was first built.

Such a nice place before sec 8 moved in.

How the hell is this place worth $33 million but Cortana Mall is only worth $6 million?

I wouldn't call it such a nice place, even when it was first built.

I thought American Can went full on market rate late last year. I remember people bitching because the leaches were getting kicked out Jan 1 unless they could pay full rent.

No it doesn't. What you end up having is one tenant out of 10 living there holding a semi-steady job while the other 9 low life's run rampant during the day.

I remember the strident opposition to this development back in 1995. Several neighborhoods had signs that said "no st Jean apartments"

And people who opposed the apartments were called racists.

Hopefully they just destroy them all and build some decent places. No section 8

No, that's not true. This was 1995, not 2017.

They will most likely be mixed income where you pay what you bring in each month. Joe may bring in $35k a yr and pay $700/mt while Sally brings in $18k a year and pays $350/mt. The government will send Audubon Properties a nice check each month to replace to difference. I don't think the term section 8 is used as widespread anymore. A lot of places have restrictions that you must keep a job in order to live there. This keeps out the rift raft.

The reality is when Sally bangs some gangsta-want-to-be fig arse thug and that POS decides to take a free ride and live with Sally. Then, just like rats, his thug criminal friends come to visit...now you have a crime infested gov't ghetto.

I think he meant It was " nice " meaning, it was white. I agree as well. It was nice when it was white.

Between the re-opening of St. Jean and those duplexes on O'Neal you've got over a thousand, "I did not do anythings" concentrated in a relatively small area with more (apartments) sure to arrive...There was a murder in those O'Neal duplexes yesterday in fact.

Just those two areas are actually about as big as all the satellite hoods concentrated in and around old Hammond and the Blvd. De Province area. Hell the displacement of all those scholars from SJ is probably why crime has ticked up elsewhere.

I bet if you combined all the section 8 apartments, duplexes and housing in S. BR into a single geographic area it would rival the worst pockets of NBR. I would bet most people (if being honest) would take the Villa Del Ray's and Monticello's of the world over close proximity to SJ, Gardere and the steady hoodification of The Perkins/Siegan area any day of the week.

Went to school at st jean and remember my parents and others who lived in white oak landing being very pissed about them building these. When my youngest brother was at st jean, he said they would see some pretty crazy stuff from time to time and there was cops always going over there. It was and always has been a shithole. Along with those run down duplex houses on O'Neal lane. It's pretty crazy considering how nice some of the subdivisions right around there are too.

To be fair Jay's had some fun with the signs he had in front.

And then there was the time he replaced all the C's in a sign with K's...

The crime was so bad in this complex that both Dominoes and Papa John's refused to deliver here after dark.
