I don't agree with that. An 18 year old can be mature enough to go to combat but handling alcohol is a different story. There are plenty grown adults that aren't mature enough for alcohol.

Was about to post the same thing. I had just turned 21 when that happened but some of my friends were 19 or 20 and couldn't buy booze anymore. I call that extortion.

I'd argue it's beause we don't normalize drinking alcohol at a young age. Instead of teaching our kids how to treat and appreciate alcoholic beverages, they go off to college and abuse it.

That's not to say that people still wouldn't abuse alcohol, but it wouldn't be nearly as problematic if kids were used to being around it.

We ought to threaten to drop the drinking age to 18 if the feds don't build BR a new bridge.

Look at the great company we're in when it comes to 21 yoa drinking laws:

Indonesia
Kazakhstan
Oman
Pakistan
Sri Lanka
Palau
United States

Muslims, a couple po dunk islands, and us

I agree. Looking back in it, I had some friends when I was 17 or 18 that were not cut out for college and certainly could have used some discipline that hopefully would have been learned in the military. And some went that route.

And more often than not, those were the same people that I didn't want to be around when they were hammered or always getting into trouble or reckless driving while drinking.
