Thanks for the detailed reply. Interesting stuff. From what you said I don't think I'll be taking on that task anytime soon unless I suddenly have a bunch of time of my hands to study it all. The comment you made in another post about $250 electronics in a $300 fridge is frustrating to hear thats the way things are headed.
Any chance refrigerators have speed queen equivalent?

It has been running and cold now, ordered the part from Amazon for 9.99 with prime shipping. Looks like you just take the old one out and plug the new defrost timer in. Should be here Friday.

For $100 - $200 bucks you can get plenty of more years out of it. Repair is the way to go. Refrigerators and Freezers are great items to buy used because of this.

Anything cheap with a timer will last. Even a crap fridge should go ten years.

I'm one of the techs who speaks out at every convention about the new shite. The timer was the bees knees for us. $90-100 profit for ten minutes. Replaced by the adc board.

Go to sears parts direct.com and type your model number in. Find your part and price check it with repair clinic.com you can find quite a few how to videos online on how to fix whatever problem you are having.

I use parts town or Amazon a good bit at work. Parts town will provide you with exploded diagrams.

I have a Frigidaire top freezer model(a cheap one) that's about 7 years old. A few mornings ago I opened to get some water than could tell the water fridge wasn't as cold as normal.
I could hear the starter relay trying to turn the compressor on. I assumed since the compressor didn't come on every time that the starter was going out. I replaced it and the first try it kicked the compressor on.
Now I can hear a humming noise coming from the back(down by the compressor). The temps in the fridge this morning were 22 in the freezer and 42 in the fridge. When I shut the door, the compressor kicked on and after a few minutes I checked again and the temps inside had dropped to normal levels(8 and 32).
It ran for over an hour last night. Should it run for that long and what could be humming?
