Lately I have noticed ads popping up on different websites I frequent but it is usually for items I have searched for recently. That happens all the time and has been for a while now, of course.

I had a phone conversation last night with a friend that had replaced their sink garbage disposal.

Sure as shite, an ad for a sink garbage disposal system popped up this morning. I didn't search for anything but I was using speakerphone because there was no one else around.

Turn off your app privileges.
Problem solved.

I clicked on a local boot store on google maps this morning.

Nothing but boot ads.

I think I have never in my life intentionally clicked on a pop up ad.

Maybe I should. The ads had some cool looking boots.

Maybe they are not all scams?

Did you just start using the Internet? This has been a thing for decades, which is why ad blockers were invented, and real browsers prevent third party cookies (which is what is telling Google that you searched for videos about flame throwers on X which is what causes you to see an ad for fire extinguishers on WBRZ dot com.)

You gotta embrace the ads tailored to you.

When I blocked cookies, I found that I get ads for things I don’t need: AIDS drugs, Ozempic, penis erection enhancers … (subtle brag, I know).

I have been getting YouTube shorts neuropathy vids lately.

The only thing I can link it to is me getting a neurologist appointment on the MyChart app.

I understand ads based on search history and sites visited etc. But the listening to my conversations is what gets me.

I'll be talking to fam member about ice cream or whatever the topic, hop on the ipad and first ad is a local ice cream place... Creepy and a bit scary really....

This has been happening for years. It's so bad that Congress even invited Zuckerburg to lie under oath about it.

I do get a kick out of the ads that start popping up right after you buy something.

Last year I started researching buying an old International Scout and browsing through Marketplace on FB to check prices.... 2 days later, someone puts out a 66 Scout for sale, outside a business I pass every day on my way to and from work.

FB ads are obviously OOC. They are now physically placing stuff I research in my path.....

Kidding of course, but it was kind of freaky that I started searching for one, and one just pops up for sale on my daily route. It's not a common vehicle at all anymore so that made it seem freakier than coincidental.
