What are some of the better options around the 40-50 dollar range?

A full blown shaver or a just a beard/mustache trimmer?
For a true electric shaver, there is nothing worth a shite in that range.

Agreed.

Lots of good options for this in that range though.
ETA:
I have a beard so I just use trimmer and a plug-in heavy duty shaver with attachment like you see at the barber.

I bought this Panasonic shaver two years ago to replace a POS Phillips. It gives a close shave for an electric razor and doesn't pull or irritate my skin. You can use it wet or dry.
I really prefer a blade but I take Plavix and even a small cut is a major problem. This is the best alternative I've found.
