Looking to build a house in Livingston Parish in the next 2 months. Have the land already purchased and will be ready to build on. Have been seriously considering self contracting, but would like to meet with builders before 100% deciding to go that direction. We have our plans. House will be about 2300 sq ft (no ot baller). Any suggestions on who to meet with, or who to avoid would be appreciated. TIA

Do what everyone else in the LP does, get DSLD or DR Horton to build your home.

Built about 5 years ago. Our contractor was great and would recommend him. Danny Gallman. Email me if you have some questions.

I read in the paper that Matthew Morris of Complete Construction Contractors has done a lot of housing work in LP after the August, 2016 floods.

Meet with them, but really consider doing it yourself. I built 2 years ago and did not use a contractor. Saved a ton of $.

We are absolutely highly considering it. The one thing we are looking at is obviously the time. I’m self employed and we have 2 young kids and will be living wit the in laws while we build. I know I builder can build it faster. Plus if it’s not THAT much more per month over a 30 year we may would go that route. Just want to meet with them to make sure we make the right decision.

That is a lot of factors. In-laws living can be rough. From start to finish, it took me 8 months. But, I was building during the flood time and between the rain and getting subs back who flooded-that set me back a bit. Good luck.

Thanks. Mind sharing the size house and price per sqft you were able to do it at?

$114/sq ft living or under beam?
What type of materials? Builder/spec quality, or better?

I’m getting that kind of number under beam on the Northshore.

Living. No builder grade materials. Used Pella windows/doors. Hardie siding, split asphalt shingle/metal roof. Job built shower, maple flooring, quartz counters. Nothing is spec.
