Just to give you some idea how rare the most powerful tornadoes can be, the El Reno tornado was the last recorded EF-5. Sadly I think we are due for one this upcoming season. The El Reno Tornado had wind speeds in excess of 300 MPH.

Anyways...this one was a true sidewinder that bamboozled experienced storm chasers, leading to the deaths of four of them - including famed chaser Tim Samaras. Other chasers such as Mike Bettes and Reed Timmer barely escaped with their lives.

This is a long video (almost 17 minutes) but these two chasers are also lucky to be alive.

This tornado also killed a friend of mine that considered himself an amateur storm chaser. His name was Richard Henderson.

No clue about tornadoes so what factors contribute to stronger tornado season? Or is just normal to have recorded F5’s every few years and there hasn’t been one yet?

EF-5

Everything I'm seeing says a 3. I don't know much about tornados, but I love the videos. Nature is powerful and scary af.

That's a goodun.

I could be wrong, I frequently am, but I've a very, very bad feeling about this spring.

I'm afraid that the active severe weather that we've had over the winter- even in the dead of winter- is only a precursor to what spring is going to be like.

So much so that I've initiated the process to have a larger shelter installed in our small neighborhood that will fit everybody. It's a good excuse for me to go on ahead and drop the money for it; as it has been something that I've wanted to do for quite some time.

I love the spring, but I hate it too.

DID 2 MINUTES OF RESEARCH...GRAIN OF SALT TYPE shite

It appears that under the Enhanced Fujita (EF) scale, the tornado was classified as a 3; however, that system pre-dated technology to measure actual wind speeds and used damage to different types of things and structures. Since this tornado crossed a lot of pasture land, its strength on that scale was severely mischaracterized.

Using today's technology, wind speeds of an ef5 were obtained during the storm; thus, this beast, which was one of the widest ever in the US, was an EF-5.

Eta: got anymore good videos of tornados, hurricanes, etc?

no thank you, no need to see a video of any fricking tornado, was directly across I-35 from the hospital that got destroyed by the last one that tore thru Moore, OK, saw vehicles in the sky, unbelievable, felt arse end of my truck being lifted, got out of its path just in time to see it cross I-35 heading NE, buddies in LA called me that night to let me know it was all over the news, my response was “frick that news video, look closely my truck might be in that video”
I saw firsthand all I EVER want to see, was the biggest angriest ugliest meanest loudest thing I EVER want to experience...

That tornado had maybe the most erratic path I've ever seen a tornado have. Caught the chasers off guard, especially since it was hard to see to begin with.

The El Reno tornado was an EF-3, not an EF-5.

If the polar is oscillation sticks to trend the jet stream will hang out north so that's not a good factor.
