To me QT is the only place that stacks up in cleanliness to Buccees. Problem is each QT I've been in only has 2 stalls and 2 or 3 urinals. It doesn't compare to Buccees 20 or more of each. Plus QT allows truckers and Buccees does not.
The QT in Lindale off of I-20 is a good example. They have 20 or more gas pumps, allow truckers, and is normal gas station size on the inside and can be a pain in the arse because of all the traffic arounds the pumps. It is clean as a whistle and has a small deli, but every time I've stopped there is a line for the two stalls.
Pooping in Buccees is a world of difference from there nearest competitor QT.

I believe the first one was in Lake Jackson. I think one of the two owners of the chain lives there. My brother lives there and says the guy is a pretty good person - and pretty wealthy.

Accurate. It's only one exit out of the way to hit the Leeds, AL location so we hit it up when going to and from BTR, but I wouldn't drive two hours JUST for a Buc-ee's.

Seeing people take pictures with the beaver statue is weird.

Reason 1 it will never survive in Louisiana: cleanliness.

What? No attached Subway or Hanks Pizza? Give me meat pies that make me shite my pants any day.

There are around 3 or so in the Lake Jackson area, origination.
My family has a beach house in Sargent, TX, so all of my early Buc-ee's experiences were the small one on 288 just north of Lake Jackson. That one is basically your typical Circle K size, so I was confused about the appeal until finally hitting up Baytown.

My kids got me to take their picture with it.

I fully hear you. There is a distinct difference between the demand between the two, and QT doesn't sell firewood and leather wall ornaments, so their value per square foot is different.
Buccees doesn't allow truckers where? In TX we have entrances for truckers and for cars. Never seen a sign "no truckers shite here," although it'd be hard to see amongst the 8128 other signs for other shite.
If it's gurgling in a bad way, and there's 56 miles to a Buccees, and 22 miles to a QT... Well, things make the decision for you.
In a pinch (no pun intended), if you walk into a Marriott (Courtyard, Springhill Suites, Fairfield, etc.) just walk in like you've been there before, and either take a left or a right after you clear the front desk. The lobby bathrooms, especially during the day, are nearly never used. The front desk doesn't even want to talk to you anyway unless you need something, it'll work. These are toilets that have been sat on probably three times in 24 hours.

If I have to take a shite I’d stop there. I try to stay far away otherwise. The clientele (mainly the Baldwin County one) is like if Golden Corral started a gas station chain.

I enjoyed my visit to buccees.
Brisket Sammy pretty decent
I liked the mini butter and sweet cookies over the nuggets.
Cool place to stop at during a drive and nothing more.

Lemmy, me and you are the same type of poop people. I've spent my career in sales all over Texas. I fully support QT. It's my 1b choice but Buccees is 1a if possible. If I'm just needing to quickly fill up and keep moving QT is usually the stop.
I've also done the hotel trick many times when in a bind. I've never been stopped once and you usually are guaranteed peace and quiet in a Courtyard or similar hotel bathroom.
As for Truckers, I haven't been to all Buccees but both the Temple, TX and New Braunfels, TX absolutely do have signs that say no 18 wheelers allowed. I saw them last week and they have been there as long as the buildings were built.
All in all I'm just glad QT and Buccess came along. Prior to both when I started my career the choices were your standard ole gas station where the bathroom never gets cleaned. Nothing is worse then being far from home needing to go and walking in to a disgusting never cleaned restroom.

None of their big locations allow semis. Maybe some of the old small ones do.

There is a new QT a few miles from my house.
They have the cheapest gas around and the inside is very nice.
