Accent marks in the letters are a pretty good indication you're cheating

A long time. 2 pieces of advice:

1. A contractor I know is from Mexico. He said when he got to the states, besides taking classes, he found his favorite genre of American music and listened to it constantly. He said the music helped and advised I do it as well when trying to learn Spanish. Side note...he just got his citizenship the other day and couldn't be happier

2. Another friend of mine, as well as her whole family, immigrated from Japan several years ago. Every Monday night her family had a huge party and watched wrestling with the subtitles. She said this helped the entire family tremendously. Mexican wrestling is a great way to pass the time...

Estadounidenses no saben que es muy fácil hablar como un indio (y que te entiendan) pero que es mucho más dificíl hablar correctamente (en comparación con el inglés).

DLI (defense language institute) has military linguists reading writing speaking fluent Spanish at level 3+ in 5 1/2 months. That's 5 days a week 6-7 hours a day classes and heavy amounts of homework, usually 3 hours study a night.
