Because your kid is a retard.

You shouldn't put any effort into learning Spanish. I am sure if you wanted to move to Mexico or South America they would cater to you and let you get along only speaking English for all of your govt interactions.

Everybody does that, right?

let me guess: you did not learn French with him, so he had no way to practice. Every summer, he forgot everything from the previous year. You never provided materials and media for him to use at home.
No trip to Montreal. No use of French movies in the home, with or without subtitles.

I took french in school (was mandatory). I may remember like 30 words. Certain languages aren't for everyone.

My father is a genius (doctor, professor, super high IQ..etc) and he still can't speak Spanish, after taking private lessons. I learned Spanish on the street and I am pretty good at it. And, Im a retard. Strange, but true.

Maybe your son should take Spanish? French won't really help a person and isn't used nearly as much as Spanish.

I can go up to a year without speaking Spanish and still do pretty well. But, I talk to myself in spanish on occasion.

I think if you are familiar with Latin, that helps immensely.
