yup - and people ask me if I or anyone has served, and I always reference my Dad and FIL as serving.
even if i technically is considered, I will never accept anything for simply attending boot. I learned a lot about myself and it matured me up a lot, but that is all i will take from it.
i mean i served a lot longer but i got out with a general after my unit was destroyed in rita and I didnt want to reclass to another MOS with the limited time I had left.
but to me, you are either a vet by the rules or you are not. and sorry to say, even if you served the full 6 year term as a reservist or full term in whatever, if you do not meet the requirements at a minimum, not a vet.

You should feel ashamed. I'm pretty sure you don't, but you should.

I was just listening to an old vet tonight talk about these guys that claim to be nam vets but not any stepped a foot in country.
I was in a restaurant a few weeks ago and had a guy at an adjacent table with a Korean War Veteran hat on. He was by himself, so I asked him about his service in Korea.
He said "oh, I never went to Korea, as a matter of fact I never left Louisiana. I was in the air force during that time though".
While he was technically correct, it seemed a bit odd. I'd have figured you'd only wear something announcing that if you'd actually served there.

Just because the US wasn't at war, when we served, doesn't make us any less of a veteran than anyone else.
The poor Sailers aboard the USS Liberty, during the Israeli 67 war, were in the Mediterranean Sea. Far away from Vietnam.
They were still Dead after. the gutless Israelis attacked.
I hope LBJ and McNamara are in a Hot space today.

Ashamed of my own ignorance? No. I think it's kinda funny that I had to have a 12yo educate me on it.
It seems I've hit a nerve, and likely from those that never went to war but get to claim the same status as those that did.
