Go with Radar Love by a company called Golden Earring.

Really great brand.

Helped me on my trip from Oklahoma back, driving all night, my hands wet on the wheel, voice in my head that drives my heel. Half past 4, shifting gears, No problems at all.

This is what I have and it works really well. Have had it going on 5-6 years and no issues. Just purchased the Passport 9500 for my wife. Expect to pay >$300 for a quality detector.

My experience has always been that once the radar detector goes off - you're already caught.

I have the Escort Passport Max - it's about 3 years old. Really amazes me at how early it alerts. Picks up incoming at long distances and even over hills.

The last time I went in where it was bought they were touting a new version that has the arrows indicating the direction the radar is being shot from.

It does. But it also has a fast engine, why not use it?

So looks like Escort and valentine are stealing the show. Any reasons why I should choose certain models over the others?

I would love to stay under 300, but if I have to I could go over I suppose (if it was worth it)

Not sure about escort but valentines can be sent back and updated for small fees. Mine is 6-7 years old and I just sent it back to get 2016 updates for $79.... so basically a brand new valentine for $79

I recently purchased a Uniden DFR7.

After checking the reviews, I like how it uses gps to show speed and red-light cameras. It also uses the gps for "mute memory".

Escort Redline - had it for years and it never fails. Only time I got a ticket was when I didn't turn it on because I was only going a few miles and was only going 70 in a 65. I needed to have something internally replaced a couple years ago (maybe the antenna) when it would not stop going off. The fix was cheap and easy.
