I do occasionally. There's not many places in BR where you can go have a cigar and a decent bourbon. Don Juan is opening a bar next to the store in Towne Center next month. I guess that will be another option.
A nice cigar place is cool
I want a locker at mine but can't justify it

Interesting. It used to not be like that 12-15 years ago. I wonder why the demographic shift?

Got no clue. At 38 my finger is no longer on the pulse of BR night life goings on. Not like it ever was LOL. These days outside of Mardi Gras the wildest I get is the bar at Walk-Ons in Juban Crossing.

I just have a humidor in the bar area of my living room. No rental fees there.

Correct. Most people don't understand that if they aren't state or government affiliated then the owner reserves the right to serve ANYONE they want.
You don't understand that "whites only" business practices were outlawed more than a half century ago.
The Federal Civil Rights Act of 1964 prohibits discrimination by privately owned places of public accommodation on the basis of race, color, religion or national origin. Places of “public accommodation” include hotels, restaurants, theaters, banks, health clubs and stores. Nonprofit organizations such as churches are generally exempt from the law.

Unnecessary now it seems - society somewhat self polices this

Just change the dress code to: No shirt, No shoes mandatory. No one with shirts and shoes will be served or allowed to stay on premises. So LP folk will fit right in.

Depending on what part of the parish you're in there's still old LP lifers who will never change. There's so many transplants in denham/watson area that the culture has changed some
Those are the original Mississippi transplants holding on to their old Mississippi ways.

Yeah, you can debate whether the Civil Rights Act SHOULD police private businesses, and a few politicians--Rand Paul, I think, the most noteworthy--have, but as it stands, you cannot refuse service to someone because they are black (or white, or south asian, etc.). To say you can because you aren't affiliated with the government is wrong.

To be honest didn't know or care. I wouldn't knowingly do business with somewhere that discriminated. I guess I would blind eye Muslim discrimination sadly.

Steveo still never reappeared. (S)he is a hypocrite. Tries to say I crawfished and now look. (S)he should be banned for insinuating that I'm racist for no reason.

Actually you're completely wrong. The Florida Parishes were disputed after the La Purchase in 1803. Spain retained ownership for a long while. So one could fade the heat on oneself from the long arm of the US government over in BR by finding a soft place to land in Livingston Parish. Back in the day, LP was comprised of all of the territory that now calls itself LP, Tangipahoa and St. Helena Parishes.
So you had a lot of outlaw types or folks who just didn't GAF about what some authority figure-governmental or otherwise-was trying to say or do or force them into.
This created a bit of a yeoman class in LP. While the Antebellum South sprang up all around them, and subsequently rose up to completely dominate the Louisiana Legislature to ensure it catered to planter elites that controlled it, that same planter elite way of life didn't take root in LP.
Much smaller scale farming and working class folks...again...people who grew up running and standing up to authority who were now rejecting the Louisiana Legislative authority controlled by a wealthy, landed, cotton farming aristocracy.
LP finally bloomed post-war but those anti-government, anti-authoritarian streaks don't die easy. They've been on display for centuries here. It's crazy to type that but it's true.
So to say that old school LP is just old school MS is completely backwards. LP historically rejected the Gone-With-The-Wind, Antebellum-South ideal and always has. The parallels you're trying to draw to justify the racism and bigotry here isn't congruent with history or demographics.

i just find his outbursts ironic now. I guessing he's a former law student who thinks he's always right. I think you may be calling the wrong person a pussy.

I appreciate the history lesson. I knew about the Florida parishes but never the type of person originally drawn to that area.

Had an ex whose Mom knew I loved History. For my Birthday she bought me a fantastic book on the History of the Florida Parishes. Great read that's a deeper dive-perhaps the deepest ever done-on the subject.
