Losing your business, savings and livelihood is more than a temporary inconvenience. And it is absolutely already happening to people.
This is a zero sum game.

I see one of two things:
1. Social distancing works and we start to see a decline within a few weeks, as recoveries go up and new cases go down, or at least don’t double every 2 days.
2. No one takes it seriously, and everyone just gets it and gets it over with at the same time. The numbers will be nuts for 2-3 weeks, and the dreaded HOSPITALS WILL BE OVERRUN!!!!1!1!, but it’ll still just work it’s way through everyone.
Either way the whole 18 month thing doesn’t make sense to me at all. After a month I really think most people would be willing to just willingly contract it so they can go back to normal afterwards.

It's going to happen to a lot of people. Not everyone is a business analyst that can just stay home and connect to the VPN.

Calm down

A lot of those people would be in serious trouble too if these restrictions were to drag on for much longer than May or June.

I’m not suggesting they should. But, have you read the articles? This is exactly what is being recommended to our government to save the max number of lives.

The precedents that have been set won't end until long after we're all gone, and even then they won't end without a lot of violence.

The lives of thousands of people are worth more than small businesses. Sorry.

No they aren’t. Recessions and worse, depressions, result in loss of life too.
Posted on 3/18/20 at 7:13 pm to LSUFAITHFUL
The vast majority of people disagree. Sorry your company’s bottom line is taking a hit in the process of trying to save lives.

Link? Has there been a poll taken? Just because you disagree doesn’t mean the “vast majority” of people do. Hell the vast majority just in this thread disagree with you.

Let’s see...we’ve lost over 30% of the stock market at this point and we lose at least 5% every other day, and y’all want to keep everything shutdown for 3 more weeks.
Oh yea, it’ll just bounce right on back.

without any consideration to the economy or politics
do you really think Trump is willing to cause massive social unrest and crash the economy and be known as the worst POTUS of all time?

It’s not the mob, it’s the experts that are focused on saving the highest number of lives. Your point is a different one. How many lives are we willing to lose to avoid a Great Depression. This convo needs to be had. We make choices every day for economic reasons and or convenience. We could save a whole lot of lives each year too, by banning cars. But we are willing to accept the number of lives we lose each year for the social and economic gains we have by allowing cars. Same could be said for alcohol. Hell, we let people get fat and diabetic. At some point we will have to do a cost benefit here on the lives saved vs lives ruined for 95% or more of the population that survives.
Salmon...my post from 40 minutes ago. We are on the same page.

Nah, most of y'all are pretty worthless.
Businesses at least have some value.
