Spirits is actually pretty great. Live music several nights a week. Better than average food. Great bar with great beer selection and some unique drinks they have concocted in house.
It's not older crowd. It's 25 and up but a good mix.
The crowd is upper middle class to lower upper class. No white trash or hood rats hanging around it.

Los portales has a ridiculous happy hour. 2 for one margaritas until 9 I think.

The only things I like in ellik are the Bistro on The Bayou when staying at the Parc Inn
And leaving.
ETA: They prolly still wear parachute pants at the Bayview.

Alex gets a lot of unnecessary hate, yeah, it is not the pinnacle of a rocking nightlife town, but it does have its perks.
If you are active or an outdoorsman you can have plenty to do, some of the best bike trails in the South are in Kisatchie, public golf is great with OakWing and Links, some decent gyms, nice parks to run in at Compton or any of the many miles of sidewalked streets out by Magnolia. A loyal Tiger following with plenty of parties going on around the games, or many folks to go down and tailgate with...........
Local restaurants such as Spirits, Verona, Wok, Bellinos, Cottage, Rosie Jos, Diamond Grill, and Bistro, Tunks offer some decent local grub. If you want to go to a decent place to catch a game and have a drink there is BWW and Sombreros. If you are religious there are plenty of active churches with many volunteer activities. Bars are slim, but I wouldn't go to a bar and hang by myself in my hometown anyway.
Shopping is terrible, but that is why they made the internet.
Traffic is never an issue, crime isn't a problem. Schools are good. Red River, Cotile, Cane River, Saline, Indian Creek, and Kincaid are great places to hang out and fish, or ski and hang out with friends listening to tunes and drinking beer.
I find most of the folks that hate on Alex never ventured out of their comfort zone, it is not the type of town you will enjoy if you don't get out and get involved.

God bless you for having to move here. I'm ready to graduate and get going.
But anyways there are some softball leagues that are in Pineville at the old Pineville Baseball Complex. I played in one two years ago and it was fun. Only thing is there is no advertising or no set date each year. It started in mid June two years ago and then all of a sudden started early May last year.
Not much to do in the bar scene either to be honest.

Haha. Sticky
You had the good sense to get out. But I did have some good times at the Bayview back in the day.
BotB is $$$$ but delicious. For sure.

I've been through there a good bit for various things throughout my life and always liked it in a small town way but then again I never had to be there long enough to hate it. Lot of good outdoor recreation close by. Yeah, the nightlife isn't going to compare to Nola, BR or Laffy, but I wouldn't think it'd be any worse than any of the other places in LA.

I used to work at Bistro when in high school. The owner is a cheap wad and overcharges by a large amount. That being said the kitchen staff is wonderful woth a great head chef and su-chef. Stuffed pork chop is legit.
