re: Questions about Detox Center in Baton Rouge

Wow cusoon, I'm so sorry for your loss. As bad as my sons heroin addiction is I know that every day is borrowed time. He's sober now but He just got out of an excellent rehab program. We are hoping that him being in Texas in a place where he knows nobody except recovery people might help.

Detox is not treatment, it's where you go to get the drug out of your system and withdraw medically and safely. 2 weeks is plenty for detox.

2 weeks is not long enough. 30 day minimum, 60-90 much more effective.
It's decent. Best place in Louisiana is Palmetto Addiction and Recovery Center in Rayville.
No idea, each place is different on phone privelages.

unless his DOC is methadone (72 hour half-life), any "pain pill" detox for the PHYSICAL part is realistically 5-10 days, depending on the drug...

just a shot in the dark, but it was more than likely a short acting opiate like hydrocodone or oxycodone, in which case the half- life is only 4-6 hours... it takes the body around 7 half-lives to fully eliminate the drug, and at that point the body would be in full blown withdrawal... withdrawals from a short acting opiates typically last anywhere from 3-7 days... even without medical assistance, the PHYSICAL part, or the "detox" would be over in 7-10 days, allowing for a couple of days for lingering muscle pain, diarrhea, and overall body aches...

after the "detox", though, is when the fun starts... the emotional aspect fully kicks in, where you feel like a basket case for the slightest of things... the guilt, shame, remorse, etc., all stare you in the face... support from other addicts, as well as support from family and friends is VITAL during the "detox" and for the couple of months following...

been clean a little over 2 years after 10 years of using... never went to any treatment facilities, and this last time i "detoxed" myself, rather than just cold turkey, like all my numerous previous attempts at getting clean... i can't tell you how important AA/NA was during those first few months... i don't rely so much on it anymore, and don't attend as much as i used to, but i still show up from time to time...

eta: and most of you guys are missing the point of the OP's question... he's asking about a DETOX center... not a REHAB center.... what y'all are talking about or referring to about 30-90 days of treatment is a REHAB center... DETOX centers aren't REHAB centers, though some REHAB centers can include a DETOX proponent to the treatment...

I am so sorry that anybody has to go thru this in their lives. I pray for each of you. Sometimes I am afraid to answer the phone for fear that my son will be dead. It's taking a toll on me. I worry everyday that he will relapse.
