Quote from the Republican nominee for the governor of Georgia.
Why did the powers that be decide to put this in a sleepy southern town?
Do you need a large amount of employees? Not from what I have read. Maybe I'm wrong.
quote:
FORSYTH, Ga. — Republican candidate for Georgia governor, Rick Jackson, met with voters in Forsyth on Thursday morning.
There, he talked about his background and made his pitch to voters. He also took questions from the audience about topics like taxes and healthcare.
13WMAZ's Conner Hendricks caught up with Jackson to ask about his position on data centers.
He said they should only go to communities that want them, and said they can bring economic benefits.
Jackson says if deals are set up correctly, they can eliminate some cities' property taxes and reduce power bills.
“I would never suggest that happen over the will, the obligation of the people that they want, but I think they ought to take a real good look at it," Jackson said. "But, make sure it’s done correctly to solve the problems-- economics-- for that community," he said.
Data centers are a contentious issue in Monroe County. There, one data center has been approved, another denied, and a third currently in limbo.
This week, 13WMAZ received audio from a source who was at a campaign stop in south Georgia, where Jackson told the crowd he invests in a data center in Texas. We asked him if that was true.
"Yes, I do," he said. "I do have an investment and that's the reason I'm knowledgeable about it."
Jackson said that for his investment, he had to provide a letter of credit to the power company, and that it didn't cost him.
"I found out, in Georgia is the same way," he said. "Georgia Power does not pass that cost on to anybody."
He added that Georgia Power has frozen their power rates.
Because of his investment in a Texas data center, he said the experience has helped him know more about them.
"I can take that that capability of understanding business transactions and convert it into reducing, helping affordability," he said. "Increasing revenue and expenses so you can cut down on taxes."
He said he understands that some Georgians might be concerned about data centers, but said they could be a great opportunity for rural areas.
As gubernatorial candidates make their way through Central Georgia, 13WMAZ is doing sit-down interviews with them, and we've asked each of them their positions on data centers.

The power draw is more of a concern than the water usage
Yep. The water usuage is already largely getting under control as most of them are becoming closed loop systems.
The power demands though are an issue and will be for a while now, just with the limitations of our power grids.

I have mixed feelings about Elon as a whole, but he is correct when he says that space is pretty much the only place to put data centers without causing big protests.
China is putting them underwater and using offshore wind turbines to power them
Meanwhile we're cancelling offshore wind projects because the idiots are in charge

I don’t think anyone wants one of these in their backyard but I do think they are essential in maintaining our seat as a Superpower.
If other countries such as China are going all in on these, there is a reason.
“Well, we got through life without them so far” statement always comes up. Yes we did. We also got by with mules and horses until the invention of the steam engine, automobile, airplane, computers, and then we didnt. All of these inventions have made our lives easier. These centers are being built to store immense amounts of data. Mankind has to advance to maintain a civilization of 8 billion and counting.
It’s probably the core foundation for the building blocks to allow space exploration and where we go next from the 3rd rock from the Sun.
In the meantime, all I know is if China, Russia, North Korea, India, Europe are all doing the same thing, then it’s NOT just to make stupid cat videos and spy on your porn searches, and track your hourly movements.
If an adversary were to launch a million drone attack on our mainland, I hope like hell we have enough data centers and technology to compute and decipher a counter attack with equal or superior force for our survival.
It’s the evolution of life and the new “Cold War” race for technical and intellectual dominance. Like it or not, evolution is necessary.
