I thought one of them was one of the largest cranes in the world and had a name? Maybe I don't know what the hell I'm talking about.

Based your answers, you would certainly kill someone.

The original poster should not even be allowed to look at a crane much less supervisor someone who is operating it.

yeah ... lol. I've goodgled. I've spoken with friends/family in the industry. Found some heavy equipment board. Figured I'd try out tigerdroppings. Most people that replied, obviously, don't understand the meaning of "entry level" and the role of a "project engineer" ... I will never step foot in a crane, other than to check the hrs it was used. I am not a crane operator and do not want to be one. If I wanted to be a crane operator, I would have droped out of highschool, got my ged, started working at 15 and work my way up. Sorry for going to college, at LSU.

project engineer

is a title when they don't have a real one to give you. Basically it's a spot to put entry guys to see if you can teach them something. I have hired and fired several "project engineers"

I'm sure you don't need to know any of this stuff any way.

Sure seems like a lot of people have no clue how to comprehend what they're reading.

Where did the OP say he was going to operate or supervise the operation of a crane?

When he starts off his post saying he is taking a "Supervisor Assessment" it sure implies that he will be doing some sort of supervision.

I am taking a "Supervisor Assessment" for an entry level field/project engineer position I'm interviewing for.

If the question are on the assessment he should at a minimum be able to locate the information. A LSU message board is not a very good resource.

If he is going to be a field engineer and needs to specify where a crane is going to be positioned to make a lift he has designed, he better damm well know the information he is being asked on the assessment.

Not really. I had to take a whole bunch of management training classes when I first hired on out of school, even though I'm entry level and don't supervise anyone. I also had to take aptitude tests for things I don't even remotely work with. It's just part of new hire training for certain fields.

Not necessarily disagreeing with any of that, but everyone bashing him has made some pretty big assumptions that more than likely are wrong.

Everything you described is not the role of a project engineer.

Ok let me give you a new question to see if you are qualified to do the job you are applying for.

If there is a meeting at the job site in the conference room, how many pots of coffee should you make and how many donuts should you order?

There's really no need to be an a-hole just because you and several others made a bad assumption.

trick question - you dont order donuts, it better be boudin

I think the bigger question is why is a 08 grad trying to get a entry level job in his industry? Army or Navy?

What a joke. Jokes on me I suppose. Oh well. To the vast majority that replied, thanks for nothing. To those that were informative and came to my defense, I appreciate it. Quite the introduction to the ot ... cheers
