Is there a way you can look up the date that Google last photographed an area??

Month/year. Not date.
You can toggle between street views by month/year on the top left portion of your screen.

go to google earth it has the image date.

You can also go back in time to various previous aerial photos.

This... or sometimes you can see an imprint on the picture... it will show "Google 2016" somewhere on the picture. Its not always obvious..
