I've worked on my switches before at other apartments I've just never encountered a literal fuse box. I assume they're just not used anymore in modern homes. I know how to wire everything up well enough at the switch I just wanted to make sure I was appropriately cutting the power and wanted to be extra cautious. I'm not a total dumbass
Just too young to have regularly encountered fuse boxes.

Just unscrew. Sometimes the pullouts are for 60 amp circuits, like a stove or dryer. Just be sure to test whatever you're working on before commencing with a circuit tester or multimeter.
