So what's a good national chain place I can go in and try some on and not get ripped off?

I'm not a member of Costco or Sams

Crizal works well for me, it just tends to collect dust sometimes but I do notice glare reduction

I like VisionWorks on Bluebonnet and Perkins. Stay away from designer lenses and expensive add ons. Check for online coupons.

I like going to a local place rather than ordering online because they do a lot of measuring and fitting. And if there is something wrong you can get it fixed right away.

this is a must. they will look and see how you look at things.
the prescription is not one homogenous thing. it will differ towards the edges.
you want to get measured and you want to be able to go back and have the frames adjusted to your ears if you sit on them or whatever happens to them over time.

question is- Are all the add ons worth it

Polarized, antiglare, and the the HD scratch resistant screen coating are 100% worth it.

As someone whose been waring glasses for over 20 years, these upgrades are awesome.

Frames are not important and most of them are made at the same place with a direct name printed on them. "Adam ruins everything" did a great piece on this topic.

What matters more than the name is what the frames are made out of and if you like the way they look.

But what's the big advantage of the anti glare?

It really does help with brightness issues, such as phone and laptop screens at night as well as "night blindness" which is the halo around lights at night.

All the add ons are a racket. Walmart has by far cheapest glasses and it's practically same selection as expensive stuff.

They're absolutely not, but it depends on your eyes.

I need the antiglare coating. It makes a hell of a difference especially at night.

I've used eyebuydirect.com for the last few years and have no issues. My current pair was under $20 total (these were intended to be basically throw-away but I like them better than my expensive glasses).

Take a look at Warby Parker.

Free in home try in and you get rx lenses with UV, scratch, frames and everything else for about 100 bucks.

Do you just need reading glasses? If so just go try the ones in any pharmacy.

Agreed. One of the main reasons I need to wear my glasses is for driving at night. I've gotten cheap glasses and then upgraded to ones with antiglare and it made a huge difference in reducing the halo effect from streetlights.

Whatever you do, don't let them tack on the rustproofing

Glass is best, but heavy.

Get scratch resistant.

I tried and hated transition; use bifocals.

Transition lense, scratch resistant lens. If you want something trendy at reasonable prices, look at 9five. My son got me a pair, nice stuff
