I understand there is a family visitation the day before Army graduation, and the day of graduation...but to what degree? Does the family get to visit with the graduate all day the day of graduation and the day after graduation? Or do they ship out the day after?

I had about 4 hours with my family on family day. This was Ft Benning in the 90's so I don't know if that's universal or current.

I dont think the soldier is automatically entitled to leave following BCT like marines are. I know theres a family day on post, followed by graduation the next day where the soldiers get a pass to leave the post (and be back by nightfall), but I think thats it. Thats not to say someone couldnt approve leave following BCT, but thats been my experience.

About 3 hours for me at Ft. McClellan in the early 80's, but I know someone who just graduated and they got more time.

My family didn't attend. 1987 not that big a deal. Most went off base for the night. You could drink on base San Diego at 18

It literally depends on your unit, no one here will have a definite answer for you. You could even have Family day cancelled if your unit wants to.

I’m sure it’s changed in the 30 years since I graduated basic. But if I remember correctly, Family was allowed to visit and see the barracks and stuff the morning of graduation. Course I didn’t have any family so I just hung with one of my buddies and his folks.

Thanks everyone! I see the experiences are varied, and the base web page is a maze and hard to find information specific to that other than the graduation date. I guess we will find out more as it grows closer, and we will call. I just don't know whether to fly back the day after or hang around a day.

Thanks again!

Went to my buddies' graduation at Ft Knox back in 2002. After the ceremony, he flew home with his family, stayed for a little bit, then left for his station. We got to hang out with him some during the 2 days we were there.

Son graduated recently. Family day the day before graduation was a pass 11 am to 8pm. After ceremony (roughly 11am on graduation day). They were released on pass til 8pm again. Nothing after that as they were beginning travel to MOS schools.

Pass privileges could be denied if appropriate.

Also, they should have an FB page with most of this info posted.

Hope that helps.

I went to basic in 2010,

I spent most of the day with my family.

It was one of the many great memories I have of my dad. So was coming home from deployment.

I was 17 when I joined , went to basic then back home finished high school then shipped to AIT

As a 17 year old I could legally buy beer on base down in LR, we'd drive down there and load up the back of a pickup truck lol

this was 1988. That's not the case any more.

I got to spend the night with the parents but had to report back to the barracks by 5:00 am. After graduation we were dismissed (Friday). Had to be back on post by 3 or 5 on Sunday to report for A.I.T.
