Do the angels let me know where the the parents live? I would like to know if my taxes should have already bought their presents. If your parents suck, so does Christmas. Let them go to their non-God church and beg for handouts.

I know this because I work in a field where the guys are proving income. And the girls snicker and laugh about not being able to report their income because benefits get cut off if they know they live together and he doesnt live with mom.
I do however donate to children in shelters.

I've helped with the setup of many angel trees. We typically don't allow a family on the list if we know they're driving an escalade or if we know they're not hurting for necessities. Also, we see a lot of referrals for the angel tree. A neighbor, family friend, or relative will sign up someone that is too embarrassed to ask for help.
As a kid I received a blanket and a board game as an angel tree gift. That can be the difference for a single parent that is struggling. Ever member of my family is now able to pay it forward by buying angel tree gifts each year.
It's not always a piece of shite that wants free gifts.

Small local churches are often real good about having information on a family they know. We have also adopted families for the holiday this way. Food, toys, clothes, household items, furniture can be a blessing when there is a need.

And it's not always a sap giving to a cause being taken advantage of. I hope with a day or two left a kid can get something they need. In all my years giving I've never given a kid a mink coat.

Always sucks to see kids in bad places during holidays or at any time. But, there are others that are in better shape but just barely hanging on - really can make you feel like a giant arse to not donate yet know it logically doesn't make sense because you are on the verge of being there yourself.
