You didn't mention sleep hygiene, and that's usually the most helpful.

Pros - works like a charm.
Cons - none for me.
I've never done anything weird or had bad dreams on Ambien, just sleep. I've taken it every other night for 4 years. Alternate with the generic blue WalMart pills to prevent building a tolerance. The blue pills help but Ambien is clearly better.
Addiction - no. I've never had a craving for it or a desire to increase the dosage or take multiple nights in a row.
I'm convinced that most of the horror stories are typical internet nonsense.

I also suffer from Insomnia. If you take Ambien, what ever you do, once you start getting sleepy, GO TO SLEEP. Even if you do go to sleep, make sure someone hide's your car keys or else you'll end up getting in your car and take the interstate downtown to the casino at 3am, take a couple hundred out of the ATM, bet it all on one hand of poker and lose, and immediately drive home and wake up the next morning in the middle of the room and fully clothed with a loaded pistol in your hand (every bullet was there)... and you won't remember any of it.
True fricking story. I will never fricking take Ambien ever again.

It works like a champ for me. If I ever have a night where I absolutely must get some sleep, I pop either half or a whole Ambien. I ran into problems using the generic version sold by Walgreens. I use the Walmart generic version, and it works great. Main issue or problem is when I get sidetracked before hitting the bed. I can end up rearranging furniture and shite.

I've seen some studies that suggest that Ambien is a huge problem, and that the sleep you get on Ambien isn't REAL sleep, as it lacks true sleep architecture.
I'd exhaust all other options, starting with sleep hygiene fixes.

So you take a pill every night to sleep for 4 years, but you aren't addicted. Got it.

There's a lot of people that take it and try to stay up. Your brain goes to sleep, but your body doesn't. If you take it and lay down to go to sleep, you should be okay.
I've had some terrible experiences with an ex that abused it. He thought it was funny to try and stay awake longer than he should and he would pull some really stupid stuff.

A low dosage of approximately 5mg work perfectly for me. I have no issues during sleep and wake up refreshed.

How do you know you bet it all on one hand if you don't remember any of it?
