This is an insane spot to put a roundabout, especially with LA 70 expanding to 4 lanes. There is simply far too much 18-wheeler traffic. The circle would have to be crazy wide. This smacks of DOTD trying to look like they're fixing something so they can cheap out on actually adding those lanes to LA 70.

All this will do is make traffic worse.

How about they make a 4 lane all the way from the sunshine bridge to that intersection?

More lanes is only a short term solution due to induced demand. Roundabouts are longer term solutions.

Roundabouts don't work for
A: intersections involving more than 2 lane roads
B: 18-wheelers without being insanely wide
C: where there are multiple surrounding traffic lights rendering the roundabout moot

If they are serious about widening LA70, this is an exceedingly poor location for a roundabout.

Roundabouts work great when there isn't a traffic signal 1/4 mile down that brings all traffic to a complete stop. It will aid traffic going Eastbound on Hwy 70 only at that particular intersection.

The reason they keep building these things is... they work. They keep traffic moving and minimize accidents. This has been proven time and time again at places internet "traffic engineers" insisted they would not.

LINK

At the time I'm linking this, it is currently rush hour. This is a downtown roundabout with several 4 lane roads going in to it that has lights a block down and heavy construction and delivery traffic. Traffic is flowing smoothly.

Ia the new DOT solution for everything although it will fix nothing. Right on par for government work. Spend a shitton of tax dollars for absolutely nothing

Plans have to be developed, right of way has to be acquired, permits (particularly environmental) have to be obtained.

Yes, lots of people apparently assume that when a project idea is decided on, all you have to do is get out there and start moving dirt around.

Simple minds.

I used to really hate roundabouts as a designer, but I think operationally they do work well in some situations.

You need to stop designing because they work almost in every situation that has ever been proposed. Get with the program because they work.

Yep, their newest buzzword. Do those stoplights at all the I-12 on-ramps really do jack shite?

Next, we'll be replacing all the roundabouts with a rotary system....

Do you have any knowledge of the process? It doesn't seem like you do. If you think it two years is bad, I bet you'd be amazed at how long it's taken to get the ball rolling on the Almonaster bridge replacement project. It started back in the 90s, and it currently hasn't even had construction started. There is a lot that goes into projects. If you think it;s so easy, I suggest you get a job setting them up and tell me if you feel the same way after even a year on the job.

They do, but you have to remember that they aren't there to make traffic on the on ramp better.

No, but it doesn't mean the process isn't bullshite. How much does this process add to the cost of the work? 10% , 20%?

OK, feel free to take over and get it done if you think you can. You apparently are smarter than everyone else involved, so why don't you share your secrets?

Just a little insight that I've learned recently. The project is already being slowed down by landowners who have not granted access to surveyors.

Hey wick, got any great ideas on circumventing the trespassing laws?

What makes you think it costs more?

Further, do you think people are just sitting around twiddling their thumbs? You probably do. You clearly have zero clue as to what goes into to making a project happen.

So environmental permits cost nothing? Do the people that get them work for free?
