Sid loves this idea I would be willing to bet.

I’d say the opposite. If you’re Sid Gautreaux, why would you want to frick with policing inner city BR? It’s not his problem right now, and BRPD’s incompetence makes him look better. As soon as EBRSO takes over, he has to answer for crime rates in BR proper.

Proposed BRPD / EBRSO Merger

City of BTR has a huge unfunded pension liability barreling down the tracks and leadership is starting to realize just how bad it is.

Did anyone ask New Iberia how that worked out for them?

It’s because BRPD won’t be able to exist without stealing millions of dollars from area now known as St. George to fund its budget.
This is exactly what it is. Money from unincorporated areas has been funneled to the city to keep it operating because the city of BR doesn’t have enough money to pay for its services. It’s the reason they fought St George so much.

So BRPD can't handle what goes on in their city limits, will be losing St. George money, so they'll just take the police force that was going to handle St. George to make up for it?
frick that.

The sherrifs office isn't going anywhere, it couldn't. It would be BRPD that would be defunct. I'm on the record as saying that as a while, my confidence in BRPD has never been lower, but this is a horrible idea.

You took that story to imply that BRPD was going to take EBRSO to make up for something?

They've been talking about this for decades. This will never happen. Two totally different cultures, command staff, retirement systems, pay scales, civil functions, union backing, etc. This would be a transformation nightmare for EBR parish.

I’m pretty sure the sheriffs office still has jurisdiction in city limits and can respond to calls already.

Main calls they respond to in city limits now are ones such as Mall of LA where the area has been annexed but there is almost no ability for BRPD to actually cover the area and it is in an ocean of EBRSO coverage anyway.

EBRSO isn’t working Scotlandville if they aren’t specifically requested by BRPD.
