Go to a chemical dealer (not lowes or ace) and buy the chemicals, the real stuff not the watered down stuff. Pre-emerge is key. Every fall and spring at minimum. Tru Green can be a ripoff, but buying all this stuff from Lowes is as well.

will weed and feed do it all?
The short answer is no, and it can actually do more harm than good.
Get on a weed and feed schedule that has you applying different fertilizer and herbicides throughout the year. Many weeds do better when hit with a preemergent application in the winter.

I had a bad experience with TruGreen, so I fired them.
I have found that weed-n-feeds are not that effective for me either. If I wait until the grass can actually use it, the weeds are way too established.
This year, I'm trying a twice a year spray weed killer and 2-4 fertilizer applications.
But, I can do it myself better than the TruGreen guy could.

I just hired TruGreen this year at my yard man's suggestion. I've done self application and even had a past yard guy do it half arse.
I'm hoping for great things as the Trugreen guy sounds more knowledgeable about what I have going on and how to fix it.
