Condoleeza Rice Interview

: As an African-American woman, do you see yourself in this constitution? Do you think that, when we look at nine of our first twelve presidents as slave owners, should we start taking their statues down and say, we’re embarrassed by you?”

RICE: I’m a firm believer keep your history before you. So I don’t actually want to rename things that were named for slave owners. I want us to look at the names and recognize what they did and be able to tell our kids what they did and for them to have a sense of their own history. When you start wiping out history, sanitizing history to make you feel better, it’s a bad thing. But let me say one thing about our constitution, that constitution originally counted my answers as 3/5 of a man. In 1952 my father had trouble registering to vote in Birmingham, Alabama. In 2005, I stood in the Ben Franklin room, one of our founders, I took an oath of office to the same constitution, and it was administered by Jewish woman Supreme Court justice. That is the story of America. The long road to freedom has indeed been long. It has sometimes been violent. It had many martyrs but ultimately has been Americans claiming those institutions for themselves and expanding the definition of ‘We the People.’

KILMEADE: Does it make you think less, should we think less of George Washington and Thomas Jefferson and Andrew Jackson because they were slave owners?

RICE: They were people of their times. I wish they had been like John Adams who did not believe in slavery. I wish they had been like Alexander Hamilton, who was an immigrant, by the way, a child of questionable parentage from the Caribbean. I wish all of them had been like that. Jefferson in particular, a lot of contradictions in Jefferson. They were people from their time. We should celebrate the from the Jeffersons, Washingtons, slave owners, look where we are now.

Do the black decendants of Jefferson balance out when it comes to reparations?

I feel they are no different than me with slave owning lineage.

That's the problem these days, people cherry pick what they want and what they want to believe but ignore facts and history.

I thought American History was built upon us sanitizing it to make us feel better.

Killing Indians for land
Starting Wars for land grabs
Rigging elections for friendly governments
Vietnam

Condi also said America had a second rebirth with the passing of the VRA and that slavery was and is the birth defect America was born with.

She also in many ways said America was never great and that we just met our greatness once we had our second rebirth in 1965.

Still love her now?

She is so smart.

I hope She runs for President when POTUS Trump is done.

She would do a fine job to the point, she would be known as the female Reagan.

Would u be okay with her saying slavery was Americans birth defect? Okay with saying America really became America when we finally upheld our ideals in the 1960s? Okay with her saying there were NO weapons of mass destruction?

Better than tearing them down. So long as that plaque includes their contributions then sure, include the context. Can we also include next to the Lincoln memorial he campaigned on preserving slavery as an institution and the decision to free the slaves was a purely strategic one. History isn't as pretty as people want it to be

1st question: Yes, slavery was a mistake. But we're using hindsight on this issue. Would you be upset when Jesus said, treat your slaves well?

2nd question: Hell no, the Civil Rights act was well overdue. Then the Dem party used it to garner votes from the AA block. Now, the Dems are the slave masters. I dare you to argue that point.

3rd question: Source please, then I'll answer.

BTW: What race are you?

You people need be thankful you live in a place and a time when you can make your own destiny.

Crying about water that is past the wheel is shamefully looking at an excuse to be less than what history and your ancestors have fought so hard to lay before your feet.

Go make something of yourselves and quit whining. You are an embarrassment to your ancestors.

Her point is the fact that people pick and choose to make them feel better. If slavery was the main motive then why is Mitch not taking Jackson's statue down?....because it's an iconic part of New Orleans skyline.
Georgetown University sold slaves that ended up in Louisiana and wherever else. If slavery was the death to all things going forward then please tell me when will the University shut down completely instead of renaming some buildings.
I don't have a horse in the race because I could care less about The city of New Orleans. My point is this country was built on the savagery of those that came before us. From the settlers in the 13 colonies, to the American Revolution. Civil War, American / Indian battles and subsequent land grab. It all shaped this country right or wrong.
