How is this fact? Because TMZ says multiple sources say so?

Unless someone who treated him says so or his medical records are released, I don't know how anyone knows this to be fact other than those who were there at the time. I don't rely upon TMZ's pontificating for news I share as "fact".

quote:

The facts that we do know is that Prince had substance abuse issues.

I don't "know" that. Provide a link to this, please. I watched some of his close confidents last night deny that he was into drugs and ask folks to wait for the autopsy reports.

He may have had a history of substance abuse. I don't know. His friends indicate there is no current abuse issue. I have no idea of the truth. The autopsy and toxicology reports will confirm the cause of death.

quote:

Will have to wait and see but all signs point to another overdose for cause of death.

I just don't get this. What signs?

He was out and about after he performed the cancelled concerts. Are there confirmed reports that he appeared under the influence of drugs at the Atlanta concerts? Are there confirmed reports that he was on drugs when he had to cancel those concerts initially. He was at Walgreen's. He rode his bike. He went to a jazz bar. He held a late night concert party at his house, all of these things occurring after his return home. Those are the things I know.

I'm not saying he didn't overdose. I'm saying I don't know and I haven't seen anything other than speculation on his relationship with drugs.

I lean a little more toward him relying upon his religious beliefs and, perhaps not getting the medical treatment he needed. That's at least as plausible as a drug overdose, pretty much.

Guy I work with was telling me a story today about the first time he saw Prince play in concert. He said he would walk to other musicians on stage and take their instrument from them and play. Not just play their instrument but play it better than they were playing it. Then Prince would walk to another musican on stage and do it again.

That is freaking impressive.

For those of you looking for a reason to hate:

Prince lyrics:

Every time I watch the other people news
I c a false picture of myself, another one of u
They try 2 tell us what we want, what 2 believe
Didn't that happen in the Garden
When somebody spoke 2 Eve?
But I'm willing 2 do The Work
Willing 2 do what I gotta do
I'm willing 2 do The Work
Tell me now - what about u?
Look around and tell me ur Sun is Risen
When ur brothers and sisters r in the Fall
What is left 2 give when r work is done?
What do we own besides the right 2 crawl?
C we're living in a system that the devil designed
And suffering from this devil's most heinous crime
He's tried 2 keep us from the reason we were born
That is 2 b the living truth in human 4m
But I'm willing 2 do The Work
Willing 2 do what I gotta do
I'm willing 2 do The Work
Tell me now - what about u?
This work is not an easy task
But this is the work we must do 4 Revelation 2 come 2 pass
This work is the kind that turns ur back on the Ruling Class
By putting them in their place just like the past
Taste it, ain't it sweet sweet?
Gotta lotta work 2 do
Taste it, ain't it sweet sweet?
Gotta lotta work 2 do
Nothing can stop us
Whatever's in r way
We got 2 go thru it 2 get 2 it
I heard somebody say,
I'm willing 2 do The Work
Willing 2 do what I gotta do
I'm willing 2 do The Work
Tell me now - what about u?
Thank u

TMZ is now reporting Prince's plane made the emergency landing because he had taken too much Percocet, which he used for chronic hip pain.

I doubt he overdosed. Now I did hear he has had a hip problem and an ankle problem. He has been on pain meds for this. But his plane landing for three hours because of and overdose is stupid. He would have had to stay there longer than three hours.. If he did somehow overdose I would be shocked..... I say heart attack or respitory failure.

Technically, the raspy 1983 Wild Heart dance track "Stand Back," was written by Nicks herself – but Nicks has said it "belongs" to Prince. She likes to tell its origin story: It was the day of her wedding, she and her new husband Kim Anderson were driving North to Santa Barbara for their honeymoon when she heard "Little Red Corvette" for the first time. She wrote "Stand Back" start to finish that day, humming along to the Prince single. When she later went to record the song, she called to tell him the story. Twenty minutes later the Purple One showed up at her studio. He "walked over to the synthesizers that were set up, was absolutely brilliant for about 25 minutes and then left," she later told Timothy White. "He spoiled me for every band I've ever had because nobody can exactly recreate – not even with two piano players – what Prince did all by his little self."

quote:

I phoned Prince out of the blue, hummed a melody, and he listened," says Nicks of the latter hit's gestation. "I hung up, and he came over within the hour. He listened again, and I said, 'Do you hate it?' He said, 'No,' and walked over to the synthesizers that were set up, was absolutely brilliant for about twenty five minutes, and then left. He was so uncanny, so wild, he spoiled me for every band I've ever had because nobody can exactly re-create - not even with two piano players-what Prince did all by his little self.

- Stevie Nicks, Rock Lives, by Timothy White,1991

So fricking bad arse.

I really like these stories. For some reason I've heard so little inside stuff like this about him even though I was a huge fan when I was younger.

So damn cool.

He is kind of underrated with the masses.

People know him as a pop icon of the 80's, but the guy could do it all and helped write a shite load of songs that you had know idea he touched.

In general, people don't realize how ridiculous he was with the guitar, but most famous guitarist know the guy is an all time great.
