There's a pretty robust body of research into this by professional economists, and quite a few who think price gouging laws are counter-productive. That answer isn't as easy as you think.

Dude was able to clean out rural store because of anti price gouging laws. If the store began raising the price as he emptied their shelves he would have thought better of it. His business model is intended to take advantage of fixed prices that will limit supplies to areas. As always, blame the govt for causing the problem.

Lol I'm sure you would love it without anti trust laws when one party can completely control the supply of a necessary item or service.
