He says, "As the colors are presented by LSU's Reserve Officer Training Corps, the Pershing Rifles." The way he's saying it implies that Pershing Rifles is the name of LSU's ROTC unit, not an honorary group within that unit. It's a minor thing, but I'm OCD enough that it bothers me. He should say, "As the colors are presented by LSU's ROTC honor society, The Pershing Rifles," or something like that.

I graduated in 2013 and it wasn't around.
The only two groups you had were the Bengal Raiders (bad mother frickers) and Pershing Rifles (like to play dress up and twirl rifles).

Hey Butch is COWS still around? I haven't seen or heard anything from them in a long time. Usually I would get something from Mr. Guidry annually. I think they do a pretty poor job of putting out information on who is where. For example the Army Aviation Association of America (AAAA) or (Quad-A) puts out an annual blue book where it shows where everyone in any sort of Aviation position is located and contact information. COWS should do the same. As an example say I'm commanding A Troop, 3rd Squadron, 6th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Armored Division Combat Aviation Brigade. Right now no one would know that. There should be some way for alumni to get an update and be able to contact people presently in the force. I guess what I'm trying to say is instead of being so oriented on ollllld time vets we should have some sort of publication to track who is where for the active folks.

Serious question: why doesn't LSU honor some of its current students that are prior service that have serious awards and actually attending LSU currently instead of what seems like lifetime achievement for LtCol and Col supply types?

Because frankly USMC Reserves with no deployments doesn't qualify to be praised and secondly a E-4 with an ARCOM isn't very rare or celebratory. That is the vast majority of currently attending LSU veterans.

You have E5's/6's that are former infantry with bronze stars V for valor and did time in ranger Batt that are students. But if you want to be petty about me asking a serious question, that's cool too.

Chesty, it's a matter of visibility....if the organization doesn't know who they are, how do they get nominated....COWS needs younger members....it'd help the organization tremendously

The cannon was used through the 2011 season, even for a 21 gun salute at LSU salutes that year. After that it was cut from the budget.

It is a Pershing Rifles uniform modeled off the old Corps of Cadets uniform. They finally got the money to buy them through donations from some generous Alums. We tried to make this happen when I was in PR in the late 90s and never could get the money to pull it off. I'm glad to see they got the money and I like these uniforms.
Now the real question is whether or not they (pledges at least) are still shining the cannons in front of the Military Science Building the night before all home football games?

It was still happening in Fall of 13, but they usually did it during the day on the Friday before.
