premium gas is nothing more than higher octane fuel. Engines that are higher compression and designed to run on it will suffer detonation or "knock" if ran on lower octane.

My 08 Silverado works great with regular cheap gas.

My vehicle requires 89 but I run 93 because that's what I have it tuned for. Your owners manual will tell you what fuel is used.

High compression engines need it to prevent pre-ignition, but can get away with 87 most times.
Also certain Toyota engines run a better program when they detect 91 octane or better. Specifically the 4.0L V-6 in the Tacoma.
Try it if you have one, just one tank.

What was the actual problem they fixed?
$500 seems like a cheap repair for working on the Engine of an Infinity.

Idk. That's been a while. Prolly sea foam like treatments.

Most cars will run fine on 87 octane. The only car we put premium case in is a 69 Chrysler 300 with a 440. The unleaded is the problem for old cars more so than the octane (in most cases).

I use premium in my landrover
Two years ago I was spending close to 5 bucks a gallon to get 12-15 miles. It was depressing. Really thought about trading it in for something else.

Do you know anything about octane?
Octane rating tells us how fast or slow gas ignites in the cylinder, fwiw

You are really a dumbass for towing your car to the dealership for a dead battery.

Aviation fuel is the best for Old cars, 100 octane Low Lead.
Expensive but they were made to burn lead.

The 300 runs like a bear with some Avgas.
It would be an interesting thread - what additives do you put in the tank (especially on old cars).

I had a 67 Stang with the 289 and it was like a whole new car the first tank of Avgas I put in it.
It was only like $1.75 a gallon then (late 90's)

It is now illegal to buy avgas for non-aviation purposes from airport fuel suppliers - but I've seen some cars at the av gas pumps on occasion.

Premium burns cleaner and will leave less carbon behind. Take apart the fuel injection systems of 2 identical cars with the same mileage, one using 87 and one 93 for the mileage duration. The one using 87 will be much nastier and gunked up than the other.
If you plan on keeping it for 200k miles then I would buy 93. Some high performance cars will throw a check engine light for an injector pulse issue if you use 87.
