I had a couple years on the Microsoft server side when I transitioned, but not much Linux.

Several years, a couple of Security Onion deployments and living on my SIFT workstation solved that problem

1) Finish school. This is a no brainer and will pay off massively long term.

2) Figure out what type of IT work you are interested in learning about

3) Find out the jobs that hire people to do that type of work and what skills are required to do it.

4) Get certifications that make you credible to transition into the field

Do all of this while staying in your current role.

If you do this, then the rate of success should be very high.

I believe they are about to hire 15 people, but I think they are hiring in-house from the different LCMC hospitals. They may do a round of credentialed trainer hires, though. I'm not sure if they'll use consultants or if they'll hire for those.
