A salt pool is a chlorine pool. The only single difference is that chlorine tablets are the way the sterilizer is introduced into the water with a chlorine pool.
Now chlorine is still the sterilizer in a salt pool except that the chlorine is introduced into the water by way of the salt water chlorine generator. It turns salt into chlorine.
Both types of pools use chlorine as the sterilizer but it's just put into the water different ways.

Get a copper ionization system and forget about chlorine, salt, shock and stabilizers. I use one gallon of bleach per week, 1/3rd of a gallon of muriatic acid per week and 5 lbs of baking soda every 2 weeks. I stock up on bleach from the dollar store. Sams has 12.5 lb bag of baking soda for about $7. Lowes has 2 gallons of the acid for about $10.
Less than 20$ per month for the whole deal.
Also, I add about 25 lbs of calcium once a year.
I fought the losing battle with chlorine here in Florida for 3 years before I wised up. The pool would pretty much stay green during the hot rainy months.
Nothing but crystal clear water since installing the copper system two years ago.

Go to trouble free pool forum, which is the Tigerdroppings of pool maintenance and educate yourself.
1) if your Cl levels are proper you don't have to worry about algae out breaks or testing for phosphates and sure as hell don't have to buy expensive chemicals to remove the phosphates.
2) if you need to raise or lower your pH then you can go to Wal mart and buy muriatic acid (lowers pH) or baking soda to raise the ph
3) Borax will raise your alkalinity
4) Wal Mart pool section sells CYA for about $4.50 a container. Be careful not to get your CYA to high because you will need more higher levels of free Cl to keep pool sanitary.
I just switched to a salt water generator but kept my water balanced the last 3 years by using bleach, baking soda, and borax. All of which can be bought at my grocery store for a lot cheaper than Leslie's.

I really think something is wrong with by SWG. I can't keep the FC high enough. I just kicked it up to 100% and it will run for 14 hours a day.
How do I know if I need to add more salt? I put 6 bags in last year and had zero problems keeping the FC up. This year, I've added 3 more bags but it says my salt is 2550 PPM. I can taste the salt in the water so I hate to add more.
I put more stabilizer and conditioner in it s few weeks ago, but how do I know if I put enough?
The Pool is only a year old.

Is that inside the SWG? The light on top of it says the flow is good.

Water balancing is not rocket science, look at the half-wits that build pools.
Learn the chemistry yourself.
Miuratic acid is your friend. Sun/heat is your enemy.

Also, test your salt with a drop test. The strips suck.

Your salt levels are probably to low. Look at the owner's manual for the recommended salt concentration. The Hayword that I recently installed recommends 3200 ppm.
Wal Mart sells salt for $5 a bag. Look at the table on the back of the bag to see how many bags you need to raise the salinity concentration to the recommended level.

It's always possible you got a bad cell but not probable. If you were to come into my store first thing I would tell you is to take a water sample by placing your bottle by the return jet. There should be a high chlorine reading in that water. If there isn't then there is something wrong with the cell.
Next step would be to clean it because that is cheap. If that doesn't work then test it if you can find a place that does that.
I'll let you know right now that 2500 ppm of salt is probably too low. I listed some salt levels for popular SWGs below.
Jandy 4000
Hayward 3200
Intellichlor 3500
As you can see all of them are above 3000 ppm. How much salt you need to add depends on your pool size.
