use to go on weekends in college with buddies and have contests on who could eat the most flautas and tacos
shite was like candy, so greasy and so good
the managers look when we would come in was priceless.
I still have a pic from my 8 year old bday party at the one in orange. they gave you a Pinata and put your pic on the wall and it was like Christmas effin morning.

I played the shite out of some Rampage at the one on Florida Blvd as a kid.
Those flautas/taquitos dipped in cheese sauce were boss.
Went every year for my birthday to get my free piñata.
I used to bite a hole in the corner of the sopapilla and fill that mother up with Honey.

There's still an original Panchos in the Houston area. I went there a few months ago and it was just like the one on Vets but bigger.

Just tried to go to one and it was closed.
Used to go to the one on vets in Metairie, after we would get blowed up. It was a messican food massacre, then sopapillas, then free ice cream for the road.
I had a friend that used to throw his ice cream cone off the overpass on Cleary every time.

Which one? The one off I-45?
Posted on 1/20/15 at 7:49 pm to Oates Mustache
Is the one coming into Houston before 45 on I-10 still alive?

I've got one.
Had my 10th birthday party there. At that time in my life, I wanted to be Mexican. So I got myself a bullwhip from Poncho's for my birthday. I still have it to this day, although I don't whip quite as many bulls with it as I used to.

There is a place i Kenner called 2 Amigos. I'm about 90% sure it is the same management as the old Vets location, but the food is 100% the same. I went a few months back and it brought back soooooo many memories of my childhood! Everyone needs to go check it out!
ETA: Here is the website. And they even say
Sounds like it is the old Ponchos to me

I'm not sure if this thread should be on the food and drink board or the diarrhea board. Either way it was always a good time

I went to the one at I-45 at Tidwell tonight and it was delicious!

Paige, there is no way you like Panchos and be a respectable datable female. BTW RIP Bossier City Panchos. Gone but never forgotten.
My one and only trip to a Pancho's was the one in Bossier City in the mid 70s. They had the most disgusting waitress in the world and I swore to never go to one again!

Dang, I thought that was you! I wasn't sure though so I didn't say hi.

You are correct! Independence Mall was on the other side of Vets closer to Houston's

Here's a mid-90s pic of me and my buddy after we stole some pinatas from the
Metairie location after eating there. Loved the enchiladas with the red tomato soup-ish sauce and sour cream on top

Good to hear! I can't ever get anyone to come with me!

I have a CSB about that one. Sometime in the first few months of last year I visited some family in that area. I begged and pleaded for them to come to Panchos with me. They finally caved and it was nasty and pouring down that evening.
We show up and go inside and there's no one at the front. We wait around for about 5 minutes and no one comes help us. We see this guy that looks like a dishwasher and ask him if someone can help us.
He says that Panchos is closed, and I ask if it was because of the bad weather, power outage, etc. He said no we're closed for good and they told all the staff tonight so they all went home. Apparently they gave them no advanced notice and that night was the last night it was open. So they had everything still open and no one working. It sucked and we never got to eat there.
